Greening of labels
Tesco is to become the world's first supermarket group to launch a major trial of carbon labelling on its own-brand products. The Carbon Reduction Label developed by the Carbon Trust will soon appear on 20 Tesco products in four different categories: laundry detergent, orange juice, potatoes and light bulbs.
Increasing consumer power in Russia is drawing food and beverage manufacturers to set up base in the country — which, in turn, is opening opportunities for ingredients suppliers to do more business in the emerging market.
Healthier options needed
Recent Datamonitor figures predict that more than 35 per cent of European children (ages 5-13) will be overweight or obese by 2012. In the US, the figure will surpass 40 per cent.
