Ta’am Teva Altman, a leading Israeli marketer of supplements, has recently launched a natural product for lowering cholesterol. Called No-Sterol, the formula was developed for them and manufactured by California-based Soft Gel Technologies, Inc. (SGTI). No-Sterol contains recommended dosages of phytosterol, omega-3 fatty acids and coenzyme Q10, all of which have been linked to cardiovascular health. Phytosterols have received recent attention from various important health authorities.
In May 2011, the Israeli Heart Association followed the American Heart Association’s recommendation to consume omega-3 fatty acids and phytosterols for cardiovascular health. It was announced that the Western diet contains insufficient amounts of phytosterol. Approximately 150-400mg of phytosterol is consumed from food sources, and raising the daily intake to an average of 2 grams utilizing dietary supplements can lead to the reduction of cholesterol levels by 10-15%. This might promote better cardiovascular health. The World Health Organization states that 56% of cardiovascular problems are due to high cholesterol levels.
The Israeli Health Ministry has aligned itself with the FDA’s amended regulation that authorizes a health claim regarding the relationship between phytosterols and reduced risk of coronary heart disease. “We identified this area as critical in Israel,” says Batya Farchi, Vice President R&D of Ta’am Teva. She added, “According to experts, only one-third of people with high cholesterol are treated, so it is very important to seek more solutions to this widespread medical condition.”
“We are very proud to be collaborating with Ta’am Teva Altman on this product,” comments Roy Bouskila, Export Director for SGTI. “Many consumers currently seek options for controlling cholesterol through natural measures, and this formula has had some very encouraging results.”
