Saskatoon, SK Canada – FibrOmega™, an omega-3-rich flax fiber source from Bioriginal Food & Science Corp., appears to have positive laxative and satiety effects, potentially aiding digestion and weight loss.
It is generally recognized that a diet high in fibre is not only a method of promoting regularity, but is also good for overall health, including protecting against some types of cancers. However, the majority of Canadians are deficient in dietary fibre, consuming far below the Institute of Medicine’s recommended levels of 38 grams per day for men and 25 grams per day for women.
Researchers attending April’s Experimental Biology Conference in Washington revealed that FibrOmega™ has a significant positive effect on fecal bulking in healthy human subjects. A study further revealed that consuming FibrOmega™ resulted in satiety and a substantial increase in total fibre intake, bringing fibre levels closer to current daily recommendations.
The FibrOmega™ study was completed with 27 healthy participants between the ages of 18 and 60. Fifteen subjects were given supplements of the finely ground flax product, resulting in an average consumption of 9 grams of FibrOmega™ per day. The remaining 12 participants consumed a popular brand of psyllium fiber. According to the final results, the product produced satiety and was deemed acceptable as a dietary supplement by the subjects. A significant increase in the weight of the subjects’ fecal output confirms that FibrOmega™ is an acceptable natural alternative to other laxatives.
FibrOmega™ is a new nutritionally-rich natural fiber product derived from carefully selected organic, non-GMO, kosher-certified flaxseeds, designed to increase fiber and omega-3 consumption. A typical nutritional profile of FibrOmega™ has a fiber content of 42.8% (60% soluble and 40% insoluble) and an omega-3 content of 4.2%. The product is also gluten and allergen free. The study concluded that FibrOmega™ has the ability to alleviate constipation due to its effects on fecal bulking, and has a positive effect on satiety.
