CENTURY CITY, CA – In an open study, TOYO-FVG™ was shown to be effective in treating gum diseases such as gingivitis and periodontitis. The clinical data was recently presented at the Japan Periodontology Academy, 50th Anniversary Academic Conference on September 21 and 22, and is now available in peer-reviewed journals.
Nine healthy adult males were administered 5mg of TOYO-FVG in tablet form, taken orally after every meal for a total of three times a day for four weeks. Four measurements were taken prior to administration, after two weeks of administration and after four weeks of administration. Gingival index, probing depth, presence of bleeding upon probing and presence of P. gingivalis bacteria were all recorded.
A significant decrease was found for the first three measurements after the four-week administration. In the fourth measurement, P. gingivalis was present in three of the subjects initially, but there was significant decrease in the first two weeks, with additional decrease over the four week period.
TOYO-FVG has also been found to improve oral blood flow.* Studies of topically applied TOYO-FVG, where 50µL of test solution containing 2mg of TOYO-FVG was applied to the gums of twelve healthy adult males, showed significant difference in blood flow after ten minutes.*
Dental professionals have long suspected that infection in the mouth can play havoc elsewhere in the body. Recent research indicates that severe chronic gum disease, (periodontitis) is associated with higher risk factors for developing heart disease, stroke, uncontrolled diabetes and respiratory diseases. Toyo Bio-Pharma™’s Chief Marketing Officer, Mario Kahn, commented, “There is a growing body of evidence between the mouth-body connection and more research is needed on understanding these potential connections.”
Lion Dental Products Co., Ltd., a leading dental care company in Japan, has launched oral care products that contain TOYO-FVG in the form of a mouthwash, mouth strips and chewable tablet. This makes delivery of TOYO-FVG convenient and popular with consumers. The potential applications for TOYO-FVG in products that support oral health are increasing daily.
