Symrise achieves level 3 Safe Quality Foods (SQF) 2000 certification

The company is one of the few flavor ingredient manufacturers to reach this high safety standard.

Symrise announced that their Teterboro and Branchburg facilities located in New Jersey, and their plant in Elyria, Ohio, have achieved Level 3 Safe Quality Foods (SQF) 2000 Certification.

In making the announcement, Dr. Matthias Guentert, President, Symrise Flavor & Nutrition Division, North America, said, “The achievement of Level 3 SQF certification is part of Symrise’s global Flavor and Nutrition Division’s initiative and commitment to safety and quality. Today, Symrise is among a very small number of flavor suppliers to have earned this distinction. To our customers, it is the assurance that we offer the highest level of safety in the flavor and food ingredients that we provide.”

Dr. Guentert explained that the Level 3 SQF 2000 certification was a sequential process that evolved over a period of time. The process involved reaching Level 1 & 2 standards before acquiring Level 3 SQF 2000 certification. Teterboro and Branchburg achieved Level 2 in 2010 and were certified at Level 3 in September, 2011. Elyria achieved Level 3 within one certification in October, 2011.

The independent audits for SQF certification were conducted by NSF International, the public health and safety, not-for-profit organization. NSF verified that the Symrise facilities met the standards of the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) which acknowledges compliance to their standards at SQF Levels 2 and 3. Level 3 SQF 2000, attained by Symrise, goes beyond the food safety program requirements of Level 2 and certifies Symrise as a company that employs an iterated system for food safety and food quality. Achieving Level 3 SQF is equivalent to having an ISO 22000 system integrated with a PAS220 system.

Dr. Guentert concluded, “Symrise’s independent certification of its food safety and quality systems ensures our compliance with all GFSI requirements at all Symrise flavor manufacturing facilities in the United States. It is strong verification that when food and beverage manufacturers work with us, they can depend on the highest level of food safety in our flavor products.”
