The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), the dietary supplement industry’s leading trade association, today announced that Thomas Goetz, executive editor of Wired magazine and author of The Decision Tree: Taking Control of Your Health in the New Era of Personalized Medicine, will address the audience during the opening session of The Conference, CRN’s annual symposium for the dietary supplement industry. The Conference takes place Oct. 19 – Oct. 22 at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.

Mr. Goetz, whose bestseller Decision Tree has been called “a game changer” by former FDA Commissioner David Kessler, often covers the confluence of medicine, health and technology, in his writing, and he has a keen interest in the personalization of medicine, the transparency of information, and the new technologies which allow individuals to monitor their own health-related behaviors. Mr. Goetz’s work has been selected for both the Best American Science Writing and the Best Technology Writing anthologies, and since he joined Wired a decade ago, the magazine has won six National Magazine Awards.

Prior to joining Wired, Mr. Goetz was a staff reporter at The Wall Street Journal and the Village Voice. He has served as a commentator for the BBC Radio and has appeared numerous times on CNN, CNBC, ABC and other television outlets.

“Thomas Goetz ups the buzz factor for a conference that has already gotten the dietary supplement industry talking,” said Judy Blatman, senior vice president, communications, CRN. “The Conference has a reputation for bringing in cutting edge thought leaders who challenge participants to think about not just today, but also how as an industry we can get on top of what’s coming tomorrow. Mr. Goetz fits that bill.”

The Conferenceis known for its substantive programming, relevant to CEOs, senior and middle management in the dietary supplement industry. In addition to Mr. Goetz, the following speakers have already been announced: FDA’s Daniel Fabricant, Ph.D., and former White House strategist Karl Rove, (former senior advisor to President George W. Bush) with additional speakers to be announced over the next month. For the latest updates on speakers, visit the website.
