The Council for Responsible Nutrition’s consumer wellness education campaign “Life…supplemented” today announced three physicians will serve as consultants with the program as it launches its second year. New York-area based dermatologist Jeannette Graf, M.D., WellStar Health System and Emory University cardiothoracic surgeon William Cooper, M.D., and UCLA orthopaedic specialist Nick Shamie, M.D. will share insights about the campaign’s new research. This year’s study of healthcare professionals evaluates the personal and professional attitudes and use of dietary supplements by dermatologists, cardiologists and orthopaedic specialists.
The physicians also will be the faces of the campaign, urging consumers to make the three pillars of health – healthy diet; responsible use of vitamins, and other supplements; and regular physical activity – part of a proactive wellness regimen.
“As consumers take a more active role in making decisions regarding their own healthcare, it is still vital for them to communicate with their physicians. We are pleased to have three well-respected doctors put voice to our campaign,” said Judy Blatman, senior vice president of communications at the Council for Responsible Nutrition, which manages the “Life…supplemented” campaign.
A leading skin science expert, Dr. Graf is known for her comprehensive approach to dermatology, combining an effective skincare regimen with fundamental nutrition and lifestyle counseling to promote both inner and outer beauty for her patients. Dr. Cooper, medical director of cardiac surgery for WellStar Health System and an assistant professor of cardiothoracic surgery at Emory University, conducts clinical and laboratory research focusing on African-Americans with heart disease. Dr. Shamie has served on the UCLA School of Medicine faculty since joining the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He participates in both basic science and clinical research and is a recipient of the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine Award for Excellence in Research.
The "Life…supplemented" consumer wellness campaign launched in September 2007 to drive awareness about the mainstream use of dietary supplements as an integral part of a proactive personal wellness regimen that combines healthy diet, supplements and exercise.
