Unigen Pharmaceuticals Partners with Healthy Directions on Natural Joint Health Product

Lacey, WA – May 31, 2005 – Unigen Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a leading research and development facility and supplier of proprietary, biologically active plant-derived ingredients to the natural products and pharmaceutical industries, has announced a partnership with Healthy Directions, LLC to produce Joint & Muscle Comfort® PLUS, an all-natural joint care product launched last month. The product contains 500mg of Unigen’s patented and award-winning Univestin® ingredient, a plant-based bioactive natural compound addressing joint health and mobility.

The original Joint & Muscle Comfort formula containing Univestin was launched in 2003. Due to the combined success of this product along with Univestin’s recent human clinical trials, the product was reformulated to demonstrate optimal efficacy—and provide customers with a joint care solution with remarkable results. The new and improved Joint & Muscle Comfort PLUS product is marketed under the Dr. Whitaker name as part of his Forward Nutrition product line, and is sold online and through direct sales channels.
“Joint discomfort affects more than 70 million Americans—or one in three adults,” says Unigen’s Executive Vice President Regan Miles. “Based on today’s need for joint health products that are natural, safe and efficacious, we are thrilled to support the efforts of Healthy Directions in providing a highly active ingredient in their product formulation.”

According to Tom Callahan, Vice President of Potomac, Maryland-based Healthy Directions, “Joint & Muscle Comfort has been one of Dr. Whitaker’s most popular products. Our new and improved Joint & Muscle Comfort PLUS offers a perfect blend of nutritional ingredients that work synergistically to address everyday pain and stiffness and the building of healthy cartilage and joints.”
