Lacey, WA – March 29, 2005 – Unigen Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a leading research and development facility and supplier of proprietary, biologically active plant-derived ingredients to the natural products and pharmaceutical industries, has received the NutrAward 2005 for developing and marketing the best new ingredient of 2004. This annual award was presented to Unigen by New Hope Natural Media for Univestin®, Unigen’s science-based natural joint health ingredient, which contains a proprietary blend of antioxidant-rich plant extracts that supports joint health by working uniquely on a number of the body’s joint health pathways.
The award was voted on by attendees of the annual Nutracon and Natural Products ExpoWest conferences sponsored by New Hope on Saturday, March 19, and was presented to Unigen by Karen Raterman, New Hope’s Vice President of Content Development.
“Unigen prides itself in carrying out thorough scientific research on all of its products,” said Unigen’s Executive Vice President, Regan Miles. “Univestin is one such product that answers a consumer call for a natural and effective solution to joint health, comfort and mobility. We are truly honored to have been awarded this vote of confidence by our peers, and are grateful to New Hope for paying tribute to our diligent scientific efforts.” Miles pointed out that nearly 70 million people in the U.S. suffer from joint discomfort.
NutrAward product nominees were judged for their scientific merit, efficacy, safety, innovation, market potential and ability to increase market credibility. As NutrAward winner, Unigen will receive an engraved award, a feature story write-up in New Hope publication Functional Foods & Nutraceuticals and an opportunity to make a presentation at next year’s Nutracon conference.
