West Caldwell, N.J., November 3, 2006 - Vitaquest International, a national nutritional supplement company, today announced that it has pledged $60,000 in product and financial contributions to Vitamin Angels, a non-profit organization designed to fight malnutrition and childhood blindness around the world. Vitaquest will produce a UNICEF approved formula of children's multivitamins for distribution to thousands of school aged children in Honduras and the Dominican Republic as part of Vitamin Angels' programs in these regions to prevent vitamin deficiencies. In addition, Vitaquest's financial contributions will help fund Vitamin Angels' Operation 20/20 program, which will launch in early 2007 with the goal to save 4.5 million children from going blind due to vitamin A deficiency.
"These funds will literally save the lives of thousands of children," stated Peter Hefele, senior vice president of business development at Vitaquest. "Understanding and supporting the enormous impact that vital nutrition has on a child's life always resonates in our hearts and can be seen in our corporate actions."
Howard Schiffer, executive director and founder of Vitamin Angels thanked Vitaquest for its ongoing support and dedication to a shared vision of a world where expecting mothers get the nutrition they need to deliver healthy babies, no child goes blind due to a simple vitamin deficiency and adults and children are free from easily preventable deficiency diseases.
Vitaquest presented at Vitamin Angels' Celebration of Angels dinner held on October 5, 2006 in conjunction with Expo East and stated that leading industry companies are best positioned to support the efforts of Vitamin Angels.
"We, as an industry can support Vitamin Angels in providing this low- cost, low-tech solution that has specific, measurable results on all levels," added Hefele.
