White Wave seeks new sources

Dean Foods-owned, organic soy specialist White Wave is looking outside the US to source some of its soybeans for the first time. ?The main reason has less to do with a domestic shortage than it does with prudent business planning,? said a spokesperson for the Colorado-based owner of the highly successful soymilk product brand, Silk. ?Varying the sources of soybeans ensures against acute shortages caused by climatic issues and other events out of our control,? the spokesperson said. South America, in particular Brazil, was a likely candidate with which to start, he said.

He said White Wave would closely monitor the growing methods of all its international suppliers to ensure they would meet US organic certification standards.
