Maine-based companies L.L. Bean and Planet Dog have joined forces again this holiday season to offer L.L.Bean's Holiday Gift Set for Dogs. The two companies have been working together for nearly a decade and in 2002, Planet Dog began designing and manufacturing private label products for the mail-order and retail giant.
The partnership's most notable product is the “Bean Ball” dog toy which has been on store shelves and in the L.L.Bean catalog year-round for five years. Made of Planet Dog's award-winning Orbee-Tuff® material, the Bean Ball looks and feels like the tread of the famous L.L.Bean Boot, the company’s signature product that helped put them on the map more than 95 years ago. Dogs love the textured, easy-to-grab surface of this exclusive play toy.
As Planet Dog’s brand and reputation for premium pet products grew, L.L.Bean decided to convert from private label to co-branded products. And, due to the initial success of their pet line for L.L.Bean, the company approached Planet Dog to help create a unique gift tote just for the holidays.
“During the holiday season, purchasing gifts for pets is as popular and strong as all other gift buying,” says Pam Jones, Senior Designer for L.L.Bean. “We chose to work with another Maine company because of their pet product expertise, social responsibility and true passion for creating the best of everything for dogs," adds Jones.
With the famous L.L.Bean Tote design in mind, Planet Dog created the “Boat N Tote Travel Food and Water Bowl” to use as the gift pack vessel. It is then stuffed with some of Planet Dog’s best-selling holiday products: a green Orbee-Tuff® Bulb with Treat SpotÒ, Gingerbread Buddy, and a PAW Print Euro Sticker.
The suggested retail price for the Holiday Gift Set for Dogs is $29.00 and it is covered by the company's 100% satisfaction guarantee. It will be available for purchase at L.L.Bean stores, in their catalog, by phone (800 441 5713) and on www.llbean.com.
“We are excited to offer these gifts for L.L.Bean customers with dog lovers and four-legged friends on their holiday shopping lists,” says Stephanie Volo, Planet Dog’s Top Dog. “It’s both festive and functional and sure to make tails wag this holiday season,” adds Volo.
Planet Dog’s Orbee-Tuff® toys are made in the U.S.A. from Planet Dog's award-winning Orbee-Tuff® material. Each features a Treat Spot® for stuffing healthy treats, spreads and other Christmas “cookies” that may show up in a dog’s stocking. They are also durable, bouncy, buoyant, minty and recyclable.
Whether creating great products, providing financial resources or helping to educate consumers about canine-related issues, Planet Dog is proud to be a pet industry leader with proven socially responsible initiatives that bring people and dogs together for fun and mutual support.
"As a small company doing big things, our goal will always be to improve the world around us by giving back to our community, our workforce and the environment," says Alex Fisher, Planet Dog's Founder. "Our internal mantra is "think globally, act doggedly." When running a business, it’s easy to get absorbed in just the dollars and cents. The mantra helps keep us focused on the higher cause for which we entered this industry,” adds Fisher.
Planet Dog’s corporate philanthropic arm is the Planet Dog Foundation (PDF). The Foundation, whose mission is to promote and celebrate programs that enable dogs to serve and support their best friends, receives a percentage of every Planet Dog purchase. In turn, it is donated back to non-profit canine service programs nationwide.
“We’re doing what no other pet product company is doing," says Catherine Frost, Planet Dog's Brand and Product Champion. “We offer innovative, top-quality products that dogs love, all while supporting service dog programs, encouraging pet adoption and protecting Planet Earth. Our goal is for our actions to speak louder than woofs,” adds Frost.
Since January 2006, PDF has given away more than a half a million dollars in cash and in-kind donations to several worthy organizations. For more information and a full list of programs and grantees, please visit www.planetdogfoundation.org.
