World Tea Expo Founder and President George Jage received a 2010 Jerome Vallen Industry Executive of the Year Award from The William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), tourism and convention administration department. Jage was presented with the award because of his commitment and passion for the convention and hospitality industry, his expertise in the field, and his dedication to helping hotel college students learn their craft.
The award was presented to Jage at the end of April during the UNLVHarrahHotelCollege’s Vallen Dinner of Distinction. The awards banquet is named after Jerome Vallen, the founding dean of the HotelCollege.
“George Jage regularly shares his knowledge of the industry with students, and he has provided many beneficial opportunities for students to obtain internships and work experience before they graduate and pursue a career in hospitality and event management,” said Stuart Mann, dean of the UNLVHarrahHotelCollege.
Prior to joining the tea industry, Jage honed his convention and business acumen when he headed the operations for the launch of a successful apparel trade show in 1993. In 2003, he created Take Me 2 Tea, the nation’s first tradeshow devoted solely to the tea industry. In 2005, the event was re-branded as the World Tea Expo to more accurately reflect its position in the international tea industry. Since then, the Expo has been named one of Tradeshow Week’s Fastest 50 growing events in North America in 2006, 2008 and 2009.
Jage is also an active member of numerous business groups, including the Society of Independent Show Organizers, the International Association of Exhibitions and Events and the Young Entrepreneurs Organization. He also served on the Advisory Board of the Specialty Tea Institute, along with being its 2006 Symposium Chair. In 2004, he was named one of Tradeshow Week’s “Next Generation of Leaders.” Gourmet News also listed Jage as one of its “Top 20 Under 40,” and in 2008 he received a Nevada Entrepreneur Award from In Business Magazine.
