Cargill’s new ViaTech™ stevia-based sweetener portfolio won the Functional Ingredients 2014 Editor’s Choice Award for Best New Ingredient in a Beverage at this year’s Engredea trade show. Cargill launched the ViaTech brand during the event, which was co-located with Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, Calif.
The award was presented by Todd Runestad, editor-in-chief of Functional Ingredients. Each year, Runestad and his staff review the research and science behind ingredients, companies and technologies to present awards in eight categories, including Best New Ingredient in a Beverage.
“We’re honored to be recognized with this award in conjunction with the launch of our ViaTech stevia-based sweetener portfolio,” said Scott Fabro, global business development director, Cargill Corn Milling North America. “The feedback we received on the ViaTech portfolio and the prototype we featured during the tradeshow was phenomenal. It was clear we impressed attendees by delivering on our promise of great taste.”
The ViaTech line of stevia-based sweeteners will enable food and beverage manufacturers to achieve optimal sweetness and significant sugar reduction. With the ViaTech portfolio, Cargill builds upon previous stevia-based sweetener technologies by improving taste performance at high usage levels. Part of what sets the ViaTech portfolio apart from previous stevia-based sweeteners is the use of Cargill’s proprietary taste prediction model, which leads to clean sweetness in even some of the most difficult-to-perfect zero-calorie and reduced-calorie food and beverage formulations.
“We are thrilled to continue our innovative leadership in bringing customer enabling solutions to the stevia sweeteners market,” said Fabro. “The ViaTech stevia-based sweetener portfolio is the result of hundreds of thousands of hours by Cargill scientists working to understand the steviol glycosides derived from the stevia leaf, and how they work alone and in combination.”
Cargill partners globally with companies in the food and beverage industry to formulate stevia sweeteners for a variety of products. The ViaTech stevia-based sweetener portfolio adds to Cargill’s extensive portfolio of stevia-based ingredients. Visit cargillfoods.com/viatech for further details.
