Arlington Heights, IL ---July, 2006---The American Journal of Cardiology June 19, 2006 volume published preliminary information regarding the landmark Bypass Angioplasty Revascularization Investigation 2 Diabetes (BARI 2D) Trial. This important trial is investigating the effects of intervention factors such as pharmaceutical drugs or nonpharmacologic interventions such as fish oils on patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Coronary Artery Disease. Carlson Laboratories is honored to support this trial by supplying our fish oil to study participants.
John Carlson, President of Carlson Laboratories commented, “Diabetes and the health complications it causes are increasing at an epidemic rate worldwide. I was dismayed to read recently that 151 million cases in 2000 were reported and this figure was expected to double by the year 2025. The BARI 2D trial addresses the issue of treatment for diabetes and the major coronary complications it causes. Carlson fish oils were chosen to be a part of this important landmark study due to our high standards of purity, potency and quality.”
Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) is the major complication of both type 1 and 2 diabetes mellitus. The BARI 2D trial, sponsored by the National Institute of Health (NIH) is a randomized clinical trial designed to evaluate treatment efficacy for patients with type 2 Diabetes and CAD. Started in 2005, this trial is expected to extend at least through May, 2007. This trial has 2,368 patients enrolled at 49 clinical centers in North America, South American and Europe. Carlson Laboratories is supplying the fish oil prescribed in the study. Pharmaceutical agents are being supplied by: Abbott Laboratories, Bayer Diagnostics, Eli Lilly, Merck & Co., Pfizer and others.
