PacificHealth Laboratories Reports Recent Research Results

MATAWAN, N.J., Jun 07, 2006 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- PacificHealth Laboratories (PHLI) , a leading nutrition technology company, today reported the results of four research studies confirming the efficacy of Accelerade Sports Drink over conventional sports drinks such as Gatorade. Investigators from James Madison University presented their findings at the 53rd Annual Meeting of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) held in Denver, Colorado, from May 31 through June 3, 2006. The ACSM is the largest sports medicine and exercise science organization in the world with more than 20,000 members.

The results of the four studies were as follows:
1. Compared to a carbohydrate-only sports drink, Accelerade, with its patented 4:1 ratio of carbohydrates to protein, improves parameters of exercise performance and decreases muscle fatigue;
2. Accelerade improves exercise endurance by 19% compared to a carbohydrate-only sports drink;
3. Accelerade decreases muscle damage by 75% and improves muscle functioning measured 24 hours later by 16% compared to a conventional carbohydrate-only sports drink;
4. And finally, in NCAA Division I cross-country runners, Accelerade reduces muscle damage by 27% and decreases muscle soreness by 30% compared to a carbohydrate-only sports drink.

Dr. Robert Portman, CEO of PacificHealth Laboratories, said, "These studies add to the growing body of science demonstrating that adding protein to sports drinks provides numerous benefits to athletes in terms of exercise performance, rehydration and muscle recovery. To date, over 16 studies have been published on Accelerade. These studies cut across a wide swath of athletes from runners and triathletes to hockey and soccer players and both recreational and competitive skiers. Over the next year, other significant new studies will be published on Accelerade."
Dr. Portman concluded, "All of these studies should be of great value to Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages, who under their Mott's Division, purchased the patents and technology of Accelerade and plan to introduce a ready to drink version in the near future."
