Scientific Research Indicates That TOYO-FVG(TM) and Astaxanthin Combination Effective for Diabetes Complications

Century City, CA – In May 2007, Toyo Shinyaku Co., Ltd., parent company of Toyo Bio-Pharma™, confirmed that research demonstrated an inhibitory effect on oxidative stress when TOYO-FVG™ and Astaxanthin were used in combination.* The joint research was conducted by Toyo Shinyaku Co., Ltd., Fuji Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. and Dr. Nguyen V. Chuyen (Japan Women’s University) and presented as a white paper at the 61st Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Nutrition and Food Science (May 17 - 20, 2007).

When administered together, TOYO-FVG and Astaxanthin, were found to have an inhibitory effect on common diabetes complications such as cataracts and oxidative stress.*

TOYO-FVG is a unique raw material derived from the bark of the maritime pine tree, which grows in southwestern France. Historically, maritime pine bark has been used medicinally for its many healing and supportive qualities. TOYO-FVG has ORAC value higher than 12,000 and contains abundant oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs) that have various bioactivities including antioxidant activity and improvement of blood flow. Toyo Bio-Pharma uses technologically advanced proprietary processes to grind and water-extract the active ingredients, which are then refined, condensed and dried at their ISO9001, FDA-GMP certified facilities.

Astaxanthin is red pigment, derived primarily from the microalgae, Haematococcus pluvialis. Astaxanthin is a carotenoid, with strong antioxidant qualities, and works to defend the body from ultraviolet or lipid peroxidation.

Oxidative stress is a result of high blood glucose levels sustained for a long period of time. When oxidative stress increases, it causes DNA, lipids or proteins in the body to become susceptible to oxidative damage, which can contribute to various diseases including diabetes complications such as cataracts.

Toyo Shinyaku Co., Ltd., is dedicated to the research and development of high functional materials and ingredients, such as TOYO-FVG. It is the leading Food for Specialized Health Use (FOSHU) company in Japan and one of world’s premier manufacturers of dietary supplements, food ingredients and skin/personal care products.
