Study Indicates Inhibitory Effect of Fucoidan On MMP-1 Expression Via Protein and mRNA Assay in Human Skin Fibroblasts

Research published in Biol. Pharm. Bull. 31(2) 284—289 (2008) entitled “Fucoidan Inhibits UVB-Induced MMP-1 Expression in Human Skin Fibroblasts” involved an investigation of the inhibitory effects of Fucoidan on MMP-1 expression by various in vitro experiments and elucidated the pathways of inhibition.

This study demonstrated the inhibitory effect of Fucoidan on MMP-1 expression via protein and mRNA assay. Also, the researchers indicated that Fucoidan may prevent UVB-induced MMP-1 expression by inhibiting the UVB-induced activation of the ERK signaling pathway. Therefore, we suggest that Fucoidan should be viewed as a potential agent for preventing and treating skin photoaging.

Cactus Botanics is proud to announce that it is one of the top producers of Fucoidan extracted from Laminaria japonica. Those interested in these products are welcome to contact Cactus Botanics for detailed information: [email protected]
