Demystifying minerals [deep dive]

As a whole, minerals hold a respectable share of the supplements business with the category making up 7 percent of the $38.8 billion dietary supplement market in 2016, according to figures from Nutrition Business Journal’s 2016 Supplement Business Report.

While minerals as a category or as individual ingredients haven’t seen the spectacular rise of other seemingly more buzz-worthy ingredients, like curcumin or probiotics, the climate is ripe for a boom in mineral supplement formulas.

But that may not be the case. While the minerals category has seen modest growth for the last decade and is expected to continue through 2020, there seems to still be a lack of consumer understanding of the critical importance of these nutrients.
