Purple corn: more than pretty

Suntava Inc., developer of Suntava Purple Corn, is making possible much more than an ingredient that sports a pretty color. Rich in antioxidants, Suntava’s purple corn provides more than twice the antioxidant power of blueberries. And with an ORAC Score of 10,800 per 100 grams, no other corn variety comes close, not even blue corn.

Talk at the recent IFT Trade Show in Chicago included discussion on what research is showing: The consumer is looking for more good-tasting foods that meet “superfood” status. And with many doctors “promoting purple” to their patients and advocates, things are happening.

According to the Food Marketing Institute, antioxidants are among the top five ingredients consumers look for in food products. And with Suntava’s versatile purple corn, it’s easy for manufacturers to develop colorful, antioxidant-rich foods—that taste good and are good for you.

Celebrity health chef June Pagan said: “As a recipe developer with a focus on health-oriented cuisine, I am inspired by Suntava Purple Corn. This remarkably versatile product has found a prominent place among my palette of ingredient choices. With its earthy flavor and brilliant color, Suntava Purple Corn plays a key role in my development of menu ideas for the discerning palates of my Hollywood clientele.”

Non-GMO, gluten-free, U.S.-grown purple corn grown will be available this fall as certified organic, and Suntava is in position to help meet manufacturer’s expectations with this whole-grain superfood. It’s an excellent opportunity to give the consumer what they not only want, but need.
