Cannabinoids have officially busted onto the natural beauty scene in a big way. According to a Million Insights report from earlier this year, the global CBD skin care market is set to hit $1.7 billion by 2025.

Key to this movement as it relates to personal care is consumer education on the topical properties of CBD, CBG and other compounds derived from the hemp plant. With antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties galore, products infused with certain cannabinoids (as well as the full-spectrum oil) can help resolve everything from acne to eczema.

Newer formulations eschew the hemp-y scent prevalent in the first wave of CBD topicals, and a growing number of brands cater to natural products industry shoppers in particular with testing-related QR codes and popular certifications, including USDA Organic and Certified Vegan.

With the CBD hype, of course, comes a lot of malarkey that can be tough for shoppers to sift through. For instance, a product with hemp seed oil won't give them the same potent benefits as a product that specifically contains cannabinoids such as CBD or CBDA. Plus, when you've got companies putting CBD into everything from toothpaste to bedsheets, it can be easy for shoppers to dismiss these products as gimmicky.
