May is Med Month, and the nonprofit food group Oldways is sponsoring a recipe contest; you could win a sumptuous basket of Mediterranean foods! Check out their contest rules and get cooking; deadline is May 31. You've likely heard about the health benefits of the Mediterranean Diet for years now, but did you know that when Oldways first published the Mediterranean Diet Pyramid (at left) in 1993, "a leading health organization wrote, 'Americans will never embrace olive oil; they'll just think they need to pour it on French fries!'" Fortunately, now olive oil and other healthy Mediterranean foods are welcome staples in the homes of people who want to eat real, delicious, AND healthy food (the cornerstones of Delicious Living recipes). That includes other Mediterranean classics such as olives, hummus, red wine, whole grains, and more.
