Proposed ban on artificial food colorings

Kudos to the State of Maryland for taking steps toward becoming the first state to ban artificial food colorings that are potentially harmful to kids. The artificial colors under scrutiny include Red 40, Yellow 5, Yellow 6, Blue 1, Blue 2, Green 3, Orange B, and Red 3, which studies have linked to hyperactivity and behavioral problems in children. The proposed bills would require warning labels on any product containing these colors starting in 2010, followed by a complete ban beginning in 2012.
