The Council for Responsible Nutrition has announced that Richard Cleland of the Federal Trade Commission will speak at The Regulatory Summit conference on May 5 at the Hyatt Regency in Bethesda, Maryland.
Cleland, who is the assistant director of Division of Advertising Practices in the Bureau of Consumer Protection at the FTC, will discuss the commission’s current thinking on native advertising and social media.
“Native advertising and social media present new marketing opportunities, but also new regulatory challenges,” said Rend Al-Mondhiry, associate general counsel at CRN. “Mr. Cleland’s insights will provide an enhanced understanding of the guidelines and updates FTC made available to industry in 2015.”
In addition to Cleland, a roster of industry and regulatory experts will round out the full day of sessions, including four FDA officials: Robert Durkin, acting deputy director of the newly designated Office of Dietary Supplement Programs (ODSP) within the FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN); Latasha Robinson, acting director of the Division of Enforcement in CFSAN’s Office of Compliance; Angela Pope, expert regulatory staff, ODSP, CFSAN; and Cara Welch, Ph.D., senior advisor, ODSP, CFSAN.
Additional speakers and sessions will be announced on the website.
