Omega-3s for healthy vision

As if brain, heart, and joint health aren’t reason enough to load up on omega-3s, a recently released study further supports these essential fatty acids: They protect your peepers as you age. According to a 12-year study from the U.S. National Eye Institute, people with the highest intake of omega-3s had a 30 percent lower risk of developing age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a retinal disease that is the leading cause of legal blindness for people over 55 in the Western world. This research further supports past studies that have shown omega-3s protect nerve cells in the retina.
