Atkins Rides Wave Of Obesity Concerns

As the steward of low-carb, Atkins launches educational campaign and dismisses view that sales have peaked.

Heightened concerns over America’s obesity epidemic continue to fuel hefty sales for Atkins Nutritionals Inc., despite the death of its founder, Dr. Atkins. “As the controlled-carbohydrate category pioneer and leader, Atkins has introduced over 100 new products since 2000,” said Matt Wiant, senior vice president and chief marketing officer of Atkins Nutritionals (Long Island, N.Y.). “We plan to maintain that pace through 2004 and for many years to come.”
