Francine R. Kaufman, MD, has devoted most of her life to helping diabetics, particularly children. As head of the Center for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, past president of the American Diabetes Association, and author of Diabesity (Bantam Books 2005), Kaufman is considered an expert on one of the most serious and costly U.S. health problems: the combination of diabetes and obesity among a growing number of adults and children.
