No matter how great a product is, how delicious it tastes or how inspiring its mission is, it won’t mean a thing unless people actually pick it up off shelves. While there are many factors that go into packaging decisions—including preserving the integrity of a product, shipping concerns and, increasingly, sustainability—in a sea of products, a stunning label is typically only a good thing.

A good packaging design will take into consideration the practical matters while also invoking a tone or feel that appeals to a certain population and reflects the “attitude” of the product within. Though there are many ways to say “gourmet,” one big design trend in the specialty foods channel—as evidenced by the products on display at the recent Winter Fancy Food Show—is the use of bright colors, evocative illustrations and a touch of retro flare.

These seven products in particular piqued our interest.
