U.S. Remains a Small Contributor to Global Sterols Market

Suppliers battle low consumer and practitioner awareness as they seek to expand sterols in food and supplements.

Five years have passed since the FDA authorized an unqualified A-rated health claim for plant sterols and stanol esters and prevention of heart disease. And four years ago, the National Institutes of Health’s expert panel recommended that people with high LDL cholesterol consume 2 gm per day of sterols, along with eating more soluble fiber, cutting saturated fat and increasing exercise.
