Ingredient to cut salt content
By using WILD Flavors' new SaltTrim salt enhancer, food formulators can remove up to 50 per cent of the salt content in their products, replace it with potassium choloride, and use the salt enhancer to maintain the products' salt taste and mouth-feel. SaltTrim has the flexibility to be added to food as a neutral flavour or blended into a customized flavour system, the Kentucky company reports.

Natural vitamin E oils
Seven new non-GM, identity preserved (IP), natural-sourced vitamin E oils have been introduced by Cognis Nutrition & Health, for use in both supplements and functional foods. They complement Cognis' existing range of Covitol and Covi-ox non-GM vitamin E and mixed tocopherol powders. Among the seven new launches are three mixed tocopherol oils, which are clear, and have a mild taste and aroma. They are made from natural vegetable oils and use diluent oil derived from sunflowers, the company reports.

High concentrate lutein esters oil
Xangold 30% is a new high-concentration natural lutein esters oil, available in either olive or soy-based forms, designed for dietary capsules. It has excellent stability, which means less waste, lower overages and improved margins, says its maker, Cognis Nutrition & Health.

Citrus fruit supplement
PectaSol Modified Citrus Pectin by EcoNugenics is a complex polysaccharide obtained from the peel of citrus fruits. It is rich in galactosyl subunits, which contribute to its known ability to interfere with the binding properties of cancer cell-surface proteins called galectins. PectaSol is the only brand of modified citrus pectin that has been successfully tested in human clinical trials, EcoNugenics reports. It is also recognized for its ability to promote normal cholesterol levels, causing significant decreases in total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL), apolipoprotein a & b, and lipoprotein(a).

Probiotic strains reach US
DSM Food Specialties has introduced its probiotic LAFTI strains to the North American market. LAFTI products are already marketed for dietary supplements and as an ingredient for the dairy and food industries in Europe and Asia. The LAFTI range includes three strains selected for their suitability in foods: L. acidophilus LAFTI L10; B. lactis LAFI B94 and L.casei LAFTI L26. Clinical studies show their positive probiotic effect, good stability and excellent survival in the GI tract, the Dutch company reports.
