Anti-microbial for bakery goods
As part of the Care4U range of natural protective solutions, new Natamax B from Danisco gives bakers a naturally derived antimicrobial that inhibits yeast and mold, adding extra days to shelf life. Using Natamax B allows bakers to replace in-dough antimicrobials such as calcium propionate, which are known to adversely affect flavor. With Natamax B, baked goods are produced with a clean flavor. It is also effective at low concentrations and active over a wide pH range (3 to 9). The cost-in-use may be comparable to synthetic preservatives and significantly lower than other natural inhibitors.
Botanical blend to combat acne
Frutarom USA, has launched Z-Care, a proprietary blend of botanical ingredients based on traditional Chinese medicine for the support of oily and acne-prone skin. Z-care fights acne by targeting the inflammatory cycle itself, not just its triggers. The result is an all-in-one solution, unlike most traditional acne-control products, which focus on cleansing or sebum control. Z-Care botanical acne solution zeroes in on both the causes of inflammation as well as inflammation itself in order to stop the cycle and help prevent deeper lesions and scars. The ingredient can be applied directly to acne spots, as well as be applied for maintenance or oily and inflamed-skin support. It can be used as an adjunct to salicylic acid treatment and increases the effectiveness of such treatment, especially for subjects who don't have a significant response to salicylates alone.
Prototypes showcase gum Arabic replacer
National Starch has developed a range of beverage concepts to demonstrate how Q-Naturale can create clearer, sediment-free beverages when using oil-soluble flavors and actives. Q-Naturale is a potent surfactant derived from the Quillaja Saponaria tree of Chile. It offers formulators a cost advantage over gum Arabic because it can be used at 3 percent vs. 16 percent gum Arabic. Available in a liquid form, it disperses immediately, eliminating the slow hydration process associated with gum Arabic and modified starches. Q-Naturale can also be used in the delivery of high levels of nutrients and vitamins (such as beta-carotene, omega-3 fatty acids, etc).
