This year marks 25 years since Bergstrom Nutrition (then Cardinal Associates) introduced MSM (methylsulfonylmethane), first to the equine market and later to the human market. The commitment that this effort took is still going strong today as Bergstrom Nutrition remains the only U.S. manufacturer producing MSM and currently distributes in 21 countries.
The company invested early in building its own manufacturing facility dedicated solely to the production of MSM and pioneered a revolutionary four stage distillation process to ensure the highest levels of purity and safety. The production facility, located in the Pacific Northwest, is GMP compliant and ISO 9001:2008 and FSSC 22000:2010 certified and registered. On site, Bergstrom Nutrition produces OptiMSM® (for the human market) and PurforMSM® (for the equine and pet market). OptiMSM is the world’s only GRAS-designated MSM, receiving a Letter of Non-Objection from the FDA.
“Quality, consistency and unparalleled customer support has been our focus since the company’s inception. We welcome audits, offer strong technical support and commit to a quality management system—helping us make the purest and safest MSM,” said Tim Hammond, vice president of sales and marketing for Bergstrom Nutrition. “We provide the essential traceability and safety necessary to surpass the industry’s heightened focus on regulatory compliance, increasing customers’ confidence even further.”
Today Bergstrom Nutrition remains a family-owned business that is focused on maintaining the values that were established 25 years ago. With an eye toward the future, Bergstrom Nutrition continually spearheads efforts to discover new uses, applications and benefits for MSM. Building on recognized joint support benefits, recent published studies have focused on exercise recovery and the effects of MSM on oxidative stress. Research is slated to begin early 2014 on beauty from within applications, topical uses and further research regarding oxidative stress, healthy aging and sports nutrition.
“We are proud to count the majority of brands as our customers,” said Hammond. “We thank them for continuing to support a U.S.-made product and for the value they place on their end users by formulating with the safest MSM available.”
The company’s core values of quality, leadership and research will keep on paving the way for MSM. SupplySide West attendees are encouraged to stop by Booth #21055 to help Bergstrom Nutrition celebrate and learn more about MSM.
