Jeff Hilton, president and co-founder of Integrated Marketing Group, a marketing and branding agency, has been awarded a Personal Service Award from Nutrition Business Journal. Hilton has 27 years of marketing and business experience, including 17 years spent within the natural-products industry. He has been recognized by Advertising Age magazine as one of the nation's Top 100 Marketers.
Processing area completed
BI Nutraceuticals has completed construction and commissioning of a fluid-bed processing area at the company's facility in Islandia, New York. BI now has fluid-bed granulation; solvent-capable, high-shear wet granulators; extensive dry-roller compaction capacity; milling and blending, all located in its Long Island facility.
Organics in Indonesia
ForesTrade, headquartered in Vermont, has opened an organic and ISO 9000-certified processing facility in Padang, West Sumatra, Indonesia. Operation of the facility began in March and will significantly increase ForesTrade's production capacity. In a strategic joint venture between ForesTrade and its Indonesian essential oils' processor, the 40,000-square-foot complex will process and warehouse organic tropical spices, essential oils and CO2 supercritical spice extracts. Founded in 1996, ForesTrade is a leading producer and distributor of tropical organic spices.
Beneflax passes period
The Food and Drug Administration has issued a letter that ADM's Beneflax flax lignan concentrate has passed the 75-day notification period, and that the FDA has accepted ADM's notification for filing. As a result, Beneflax is now available to customers for use in dietary supplements.
NBJ recognizes three
Pure Fruit Technologies has been awarded a product merit award by Nutrition Business Journal (NBJ) for three additions to its line of exotic-juice supplements: Seabuck-7 Rejuvenation Formula (seabuckthorn berry), Gac-Chi Heart & Vision Formula (gac fruit), and Goji-Zen Longevity Formula (goji berry). The awards will be presented in a ceremony at the NBJ Newport Summit, July 18-20, in Laguna Niguel, California.
ChemPoint, BASF team up
BASF Corp has entered into an agreement with ChemPoint.com of Washington to serve as an authorized distributor for nutritional ingredients in the United States. ChemPoint will be BASF's preferred partner in the US to market for human-nutrition products, including a complete range of fat- and water-soluble vitamins, carotenoids and other health ingredients for the food, beverage and dietary-supplements industries.
>New logo for Pomella
Pomella extract, the proprietary, patent-pending pomegranate extract and the first standardised to punicalagins, has adopted a logo to celebrate American Heart Month and further align with its status as a science-based pomegranate ingredient. Just before earning a 2006 Nutrition Business Journal Business Achievement Award, Pomella extract was the subject of a clinical study published in November 2006 detailing its absorption and antioxidant effects. Derived from the whole pomegranate fruit, the extract is manufactured at Verdure Sciences' ISO-9000:2001, HACCP facility; is kosher certified and halal certified; and is made from pomegranate grown on Verdure's vertically integrated farms.
SGTI chooses Italian partner
Soft Gel Technologies (SGTI) has appointed Sochim International SpA of Milan, Italy, to represent its portfolio of dietary supplements for sales in Italy. SGTI entered the European market three years ago, and continues to increase its presence through product launches of key branded formulas, such as CoQSol, Injuv, Sytrinol and Posinol. The European sales division of SGTI is managed by Roy Bouskila from a satellite office in northern Israel.
New organic directory
CCOF, one of North America's oldest and largest organic certifiers, has released its 2007 Organic Directory. The directory is a comprehensive listing of CCOF's certified-organic clients, products, service providers and trade-association members. This year's directory includes nearly 1,000 organic products and a 62 per cent increase in organic acreage. More than 175 new organic businesses are listed, including farms, processors and traders. All are certified organic by CCOF to USDA National Organic Program standards.
New CEO at InterHealth
Paul Dijkstra is the new CEO at InterHealth Nutraceuticals. Dijkstra, who has served as executive vice president since August 2005, replaces William 'Skip' Seroy, who will remain chairman of the board of directors. During Dijkstra's tenure, InterHealth's international sales doubled, particularly in the Pacific Rim. His efforts helped move InterHealth into the mainstream of the functional-beverages arena, with the company's signature weight-loss ingredients — Super CitriMax and ChromeMate — now featured in several popular products, including Fuze Slenderize and SoBe Lean. The Coca-Cola Co recently announced that it will purchase Fuze Beverage; SoBe is owned by PepsiCo.
