NOW Foods named top company to work for

After being named one of Chicago’s 101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For™ by the National Association for Business Resources (NABR) for six years in a row, NOW has been recognized as one of the best employers in the nation for 2013.

In the 10 years they have been conducting Best and Brightest Company competitions, the National Association for Business Resources (NABR) has identified numerous best HR practices and provided benchmarking for companies that continue to be leaders in employment standards. The winning companies were assessed by an independent research firm, which reviewed a number of key measures relative to other nationally recognized winners. They include Compensation, Benefits and Employee Solutions; Employee Enrichment, Engagement and Retention; Employee Education and Development; Recruitment, Selection and Orientation; Employee Achievement and Recognition; Communication and Shared Vision; Diversity and Inclusion; Work-Life Balance; Community Initiatives; Strategic Company Performance. As part of the process, employees at each nominated company are randomly selected to complete a confidential survey about their work environment.

NOW scored well above the regional median in Compensation, Benefits and Employee Solutions, and Community Initiatives. As an example of NOW’s benefits, the company has a comprehensive Wellness Program that pays for preventative screenings focused on empowering employees to live healthier lives. Once a staff member takes the test they are then eligible for a wellness reimbursement of $250 off related expenses and a reduction in Medical Premiums on a weekly basis. Additional benefits provided to employees include:

  • Profit sharing and 401k matching

  • Company Wide Wellness programs such as Walk at Work and Fit Bit Walk Contest

  • Organic Yogurt and Fruit Days

  • Tobacco Cessation Program

  • Green Parking Program

  • Private Critical Medical Assistance Fund

NOW also lets employees choose from over 15 local, national or international charities to make a donation to, which NOW will match up to a specific amount.

“We are pleased to be named one of the 101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For in the country and we are committed to keeping NOW a great place to work going forward. As a family-owned company that is employee-focused, we believe in taking care of our employees with a great compensation and benefits package,” said Jim Emme, president of NOW Foods. “Our more than 900 employees are part of the NOW family and our mission to empower people to lead healthier lives starts with each and every one of them.”
