PROBAR has made a commitment to donate 50,000 Meal bars over 12 months starting November 2014.

PROBAR®, creator of delicious, convenient, healthy, plant-based food products, is thrilled to partner with Utah Food Bank in support of Feeding America’s nationally recognized BackPack Program. PROBAR has made a commitment to donate 50,000 Meal bars over 12 months starting November 2014.

The BackPack Program works in conjunction with afterschool programs to ensure that children at risk of hunger have access to food to get them through weekends. Each Friday during the school year, participating children receive a nondescript backpack containing easy-to-prepare, child-friendly food to help sustain them until they return to school on Monday. Among some of the nonperishable items distributed are shelf-stable milk, tuna, oatmeal, fruit, and now PROBARs. PROBAR Meal bars contain 360 to 390 calories, providing children with a tasty source of wholesome nutrition over the weekend.

“At PROBAR’s inception we committed to contributing 5 percent of our profits to benefit others, with our main philanthropic focus on nutrition, and specifically, helping children,” explains PROBAR CEO Jeff Coleman. “Utah Food Bank’s mission of fighting hunger statewide is very much aligned with our charitable focus and when we learned that one in five Utah kids are unsure where their next meal is coming from, we realized the critical nature of this work. We are delighted to be able to make an impact to help children at risk by providing convenient, delicious and healthy food to Utah children.”

Last year, Utah Food Bank distributed over 69,000 backpacks to Utah children through 32 sites around the state. Without this food, thousands of children would have faced weekends where they might not have had enough to eat until returning to school on Monday.

“Utah Food Bank is incredibly grateful for PROBAR’s support of this important program, which helps ensure hunger-free weekends for Utah children,” said Ginette Bott, Utah Food Bank’s chief development officer. “Being able to include such a nutritious and wholesome product that the children will also enjoy not only contributes to the success of the program, but also to our mission of Fighting Hunger Statewide.”

Additionally, PROBAR employees will volunteer at Utah Food Bank throughout the year to further enhance the partnership.
