UNPA announces personalized medicine seminar

The age of personalized health and medicine is upon us, and it’s a game changer for the natural health, nutrition and wellness industry.

To help food and dietary supplement companies develop new product strategies and offerings, the United Natural Products Alliance (UNPA), an international trade association of forward-looking companies dedicated to providing consumers with natural health products of superior quality, benefit and reliability, will host “Personalized Medicine: Opportunities and Challenges for the Natural Products Industry,” a one-day seminar to be held Oct. 25 in Salt Lake City.

Chronic disease is rising at an alarming rate, and it’s clear that environment, lifestyle and genetics play defining roles in these devastating health issues.

Yet technology, through increasingly affordable DNA kits and diagnostics, allows consumers to access information about genetically determined health conditions and predispositions based on environmental and hereditary markers.

“To stay relevant, the natural health products industry must provide a patient-centered approach that addresses specific concerns,” said Loren Israelsen, UNPA president. “This seminar will help companies develop the strategies needed to serve this emerging market of highly informed consumers that understand the importance of personalized medicine to their health, wellbeing and longevity.”

Participants at this groundbreaking seminar will learn:

  • The history, development, and applications of epigenetics and personalized health and medicine

  • Case studies from market leaders, including how one of the country’s largest supplement retailers has already incorporated personalized health in its product line

  • The legal, legislative and regulatory challenges

  • Actionable takeaways for developing product strategies

Seminar faculty includes Jeffrey Bland, Ph.D., president, and Deanna Minich, Ph.D., VP, education, of the Personalized Lifestyle Medicine Institute; Jim Kean, CEO of WellnessFX; Rich McKeown, president & CEO of Leavitt Partners; Mark Bartlett, VP, global research & development for Pharmanex; Michael Nova, M.D., chief medical officer for Pathway Genomics; Loren Israelsen; and others.

The seminar will provide key strategic insights and is recommended for:

• Dietary supplement and natural foods personnel in regulatory, product development, marketing, sales and other capacities • Chief science officers • Medical professionals • Anyone interested in the future of health and wellness For more information and to register for this unique event (and take advantage of a 10 percent discount through Oct. 4, using coupon code earlybird10), visit the UNPA website.
