Organic products manufacturers in 15 states may get some help in meeting the cost of certification, thanks to $1 million the U.S. Department of Agriculture is releasing. The USDA?s Agricultural Management Assistance Program will distribute funds to Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia and Wyoming, based on the number of organic producers in each of those states. The states will then reimburse each eligible producer for up to 75 percent of its certification expenses, to a maximum of $500. To qualify, producers must receive USDA certification between Oct. 1, 2004 and Sept. 30, 2005. For additional information, call 202.720.3252 or visit www.ams.usda.gov/nop.
