Organic body care sales increase in 2010

 

Sales of organic body care products shot up 5.6 percent in the natural channel in 2010, according to Schaumburgh, Ill.-based market research firm SPINS. Breaking products into categories based on percentage of organic content, sales of those with 100 percent content shot through the roof, increasing 46.1 percent over 2009 sales, to $2.96 million. Ninety-five to 99 percent organic products logged $3.78 million in sales, a 13.9 percent boost. And while the 70 to 94 percent organic and 1 to 69 percent organic categories showed more modest sales increases with 8 percent and 3.8 percent, respectively, they trump the other categores in total dollars, netting $22.49 million and $26.7 million.
