Virtual Town Hall: How should the natural products industry handle defining "natural"?

Defining "natural" has garnered more and more attention in recent years as the natural products industry has grown, lawsuits have questioned products that boast natural claims and the debate about genetically modified foods has gained government attention.

What's next for the retailers and brands that have built their businesses on a philosophy that is coming under such scrutiny?

Let's take a conversation that started during the Natural Products Expo West Retailer Town Hall: Defining Natural Together last year and expand it during a Virtual Town Hall event 1 p.m. Eastern on Thursday, Jan. 23. This event will provide a launching point for this year's Expo West Retailer Town Hall from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. on Friday, March 7.

Special guests--online and at Expo West--include Steven Taormina, New Hope Natural Media’s standards director, Rick Quinn of FDAImports.com and Mary Mulry of FoodWise. Mulry recently wrote a column about using organic as the model to define natural.
