Whole Foods online sales tripled last quarter

Whole Foods CEO John Mackey believes that, while online sales have skyrocketd for the company over the past few months, consumers will largely be ready to come back to stores once the pandemic subsides. But the convenience factor will retain more shoppers than had previously used online services, Mackey predicts. Startup Apeel is launching ‘plastic-free’ cucumbers at Walmart to cut back on waste

"Plastic-free" cucumbers will be hitting the shelves of Walmart thanks to a new partnership with food waste startup Apeel Sciences. The cucumbers will be coated in an edible substance that extends the shelf life of the cucumbers by keeping moisture in the cucumber and oxygen out. This year Apeel closed a $250 million round of funding which gave it a valuation of over $1 billion. Fortune has the scoop

 

Design of South Dakota meatpacking plant contributed to high number of COVID-19 cases, CDC says

Workplace layouts are top of mind in most industries readying their workers to return to offices and storefronts nationwide, and now the CDC has released a report noting that meatpacking plants wherein workers were within six feet of each other had the highest rates of COVID-19 infections than those that enforced social distancing measures.
