FDA rejects OTC CBD (again).

Addressing the hemp industry directly for the first time since stakeholders asked for feedback regarding CBD safety in 2019, the agency reiterated the need for additional CBD research and safety data before it can be considered for uses beyond prescription drugs, such as a food additive or dietary supplement. Meet Canaboxx, the CBD products vending machine its creator, Andre Addison, calls a “dispensary in a box.” He imagines one on every street corner once all 50 states have deregulated cannabis usage. Manufacturers divided on terpene labels.

International standards organization ASTM is asking cannabis industry members about a proposal to list terpene amounts on labels. The proposal would ask brands to list the quantities of five of the most common terpenes, the compounds that give strains distinctive aromas. Vanishing CBD in beverages: Are you getting what you think you’re getting?

The dirty secret of the beverage category is that, most times, the hemp CBD inclusion does not make it out of the can. Two significant, intertwined issues plague the CBD beverage industry today. The first is the stability of the cannabinoid(s) to remain suspended in the beverage over extended periods of time. Spent hemp biomass could be a cash crop.

Researchers at Oregon State University are exploring the potential value of using the hemp plant material left over after oil extraction as high-quality feed for sheep, dairy cows and poultry.
