States can continue operating hemp programs under 2014 Farm Bill

A continuing resolution signed last week by President Donald Trump allows states to continue to operate hemp programs under authorizations provided by the 2014 Farm Bill. Without the continuing resolution, states needed to transition soon to rules for domestic hemp production adopted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), which faced heat over various components of its iterim final rule in 2019. Hemp farmers eligible for new USDA coronavirus relief funds.

Though they were excluded from earlier funding, hemp farmers are included in a new $14 billion relief effort that will provide additional direct assistance for agricultural producers. Learn more: Hemp Industry Daily

FDA to meet on CBD, gender and sex.

The public meeting will take place Nov. 19. “Conditions for which CBD is often marketed, such as chronic pain, anxiety, depression and sleep disturbances, are more prevalent in women than men,” FDA said in a notice. “Therefore, consideration of issues pertaining to the safety of CBD products may be particularly important to address in women.” Learn more: Marijuana Moment.

Synthetic cannabinoid race is on.

Companies are ramping up efforts to produce lesser-known cannabinoids such as CBG and CBN, vying to improve production and bring down cost as demand grows for cannabis-derived treatments for sleep, pain relief, stress and more. Learn more: Bloomberg. 

Research: CBD may improve memory function.

In a small study published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology, researchers explored the impact of 600 mg of oral CBD on blood flow to key regions of the brain involved in memory processing. Learn more about the findings.
