Nagase to show protein beverage, sustainable pineapple snack at SSW 2015

Nagase will show prototypes aligned with the key consumer trends of protein and food sustainability at SupplySide West 2015, held in Las Vegas from October 5-9.  Nagase will be at booth number 425.

Protein Plus+ Beverage: Over half of consumers say they want more protein in their diets, according to the NPD Group (2014). With 20 grams of protein per serving, this ready-to-drink beverage also contains soluble fiber and 25 percent DV of antioxidant vitamins, and is sweetened only with stevia. It features multi-functional ingredient TREHA trehalose for its benefits in masking off-flavors and odors while also retaining flavor quality during storage.

Tropical Pineapple Bites: Nineteen percent of consumers have given a lot of thought to whether food and beverages are produced in a sustainable way, according to IFIC Foundation (2014). Produced from pineapple core, these dried fruit bites are a great-tasting example of pineapple byproduct utilization. Pineapple byproducts (core, peel, stem and crown) account for 29 to 50 percent of the total pineapple weight and are often discarded after fruit processing. TREHA trehalose gives these snacks enhanced flavor and texture, along with color retention.

“Consumers are looking for functional benefits from food and beverages without compromising on flavor and texture,” said Bradley Hilborn, director of sales and marketing at Nagase America. “TREHA trehalose can help formulators develop great-tasting, on-trend products. With benefits for freshness, flavor and texture in food and beverages, TREHA adds value to beverages, fruits, baked goods, meat and frozen foods.”

Delivering over 180 years of Japanese quality, Nagase manufactures a variety of functional ingredients for food and beverages, including TREHA trehalose, Pullulan, Sunmalt-S maltose and specialty enzymes. TREHA is distributed exclusively by Cargill in North America and Europe for food, beverage and supplements.
