Team Simply Mac, a Trace Minerals Research sponsored four-man road cycling team based out of the Ogden, Utah area finished first place in the annual 2009 LOTOJA 206-mile cycling race held on Sept. 12, 2009 and credits the use of ENDURE performance electrolyte for the strong finish.
“To finish races as strong as we have you really need a team that works together and the right nutrition,” said Joel Rackham, first place finisher for Team Simply Mac. “We have each experienced leg cramps that have prevented us from contending in the final sprints. We knew this was caused by the loss of electrolytes and the lack of effective hydration to replace them. Each member of our team now uses ENDURE and this has made a significant impact on our ability to not just finish a long, challenging endurance race without cramping, but to finish strong and get on the podium.”
LOTOJA is a 206-mile road cycling race that begins in Logan, Utah and follows a route of beautiful and dramatic terrain, passing through three states including Idaho, until the finish line in Teton Village, Jackson Hole, Wyoming. It is also the longest single day sanctioned race in the United States.
Casey Marker who is also part of Team Simply Mac and who grabbed the third place trophy at LOTOJA has also experienced late-race cramping before using ENDURE.
“Before I started using ENDURE two years ago I used to constantly cramp up in the final stages of most of the races I was in and vowed I would never lose a race to cramping ever again,” said Marker. “I set out researching why my muscles were cramping in competition and went on the hunt for a solution.”
Marker’s brother-in-law started using ENDURE around that same time and gave him a bottle to try. “I noticed a phenomenal difference the very first time I used it and I have used ENDURE exclusively since then,” said Marker. “ENDURE kept me from cramping up late in the race and helped me finish strong and take third place in this year’s LOTOJA.”
According to the official LOTOJA website (www.lotojaclassic.com) the race was born in 1983 when two avid cyclists from Logan, Utah, David Bern and Jeff Keller, wanted to give cyclists a racing experience that felt like a European road classic such as the Tour of Flanders or Paris-Roubaix. The original distance of the race was 192 miles and was designed as a grueling test of one’s physical and mental endurance.
Team Simply Mac also includes Justin Bingham and James Crawford. Bingham and Crawford finished the race in sixth and seventh place, respectively, and with their top 10 finishes are now moving up and will compete in category three races beginning next year. Rackham and Marker are looking to also move up to category three early next year. Currently, all teammates are ranked in the top 10 in category four in Utah out of 129 licensed racers.
ENDURE is a pure electrolyte complex that contains all major electrolytes such as sodium, potassium, magnesium and chloride, plus over 70 ionic trace minerals found in seawater. The difference between ENDURE and most sports powders and drinks is that it doesn’t have any sweeteners or flavorings and, therefore, contains no added carbohydrates. Once added to water, it tastes just like water and nothing else. ENDURE enhances hydration without the added calories or sugar that can undermine fitness and weigh down endurance athletes. In addition, the electrolytes found in ENDURE aid in the energy production process and also can help against cramps, a nemesis to endurance athletes.
Trace Minerals Research will also be attending the Expo East trade show in Boston, Mass., Sept. 24-26 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center and will have samples of ENDURE in booth #434. ENDURE carries an MSRP of $6.18 for a 0.83 oz., 10-day supply bottle or $20.29 for a 4 oz., 48-day supply bottle.
