This week: Go Veggie debuts soy-free parmesan alternative | MegaFood probiotics verified non-GMO

Expanding on its line of cheese alternative products, Go Veggie launched Vegan Soy Free Grated Parmesan, made with coconut and without dairy or soy. It is undergoing Non-GMO Project verification.

Sunrise Strategic Partners made its seventh investment since launching in 2016, making a minority investment in ethically produced egg company Vital Farms. The investment from Sunrise will allow Vital Farms to continue to support its network of family farmers and to invest in infrastructure to help bring the best eggs to more consumers at an affordable price point.

The six-product MegaFlora probiotic line from MegaFood is now Non-GMO Project verified. Although MegaFood says the line has always been free of GMOs, to make the certification possible, MegaFood worked with the Non-GMO Project to help establish new industry-wide verification standards for the probiotics category.

RiceSelect recently launched the first-of-its-kind organic pearl couscous, produced in the USA with organic, durum semolina wheat and is available in Original and Tri-Color varieties. RiceSelect Organic Pearl Couscous, also known as Israeli Couscous, is created through a unique open flame toasting process.

The innovation team at Kayco announced the introduction of the first line of craft functional beet beverages called Beetology. The new line of organic, cold-pressed juices are non-GMO and Certified Fair Trade. Varieties include Beet + Lemon + Ginger, Beet + Veggie, Beet + Tropical Fruit, Beet + Berry, and Beet + Cherry.

GoMacro recently completed Certified R.A.W. and Certified C.L.E.A.N. labels for all of its products—classifications that require a deeper review of ingredient integrity that includes ethical food production, measuring levels of bio-available enzymes, nutritional density and minimal processing. 

Applied Food Sciences Inc. obtained a patent for a process that covers the production of enriched natural guayusa, from a single-source plant, containing antioxidants, amino acids and caffeine. The purpose of this process patent is to create a highly water soluble energy ingredient for a healthier application of caffeine, chlorogenic acid antioxidants, catechins antioxidants and trace elements of other nutritional compounds. Guayusa extracts made with this patented process are easy to work with in formulation as a featured ingredient for an RTD tea-like beverage or used to produce a functionally enhanced beverage.

Kamut brand khorasan wheat will be featured in two new quick-cooking side dishes from Patagonia Provisions: Organic Savory Grains Kale + Kamut and Savory Grains Mushroom + Kamut, available in Patagonia stores and online.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has granted Gilad&Gilad an additional patent for agmatine use in dietary supplements, nutraceuticals and foods. It broadens the patented use of agmatine beyond just neuroprotection and now grants the company exclusive rights to tell users that supplements, nutraceuticals and foods which contain the effective high amounts of agmatine afford not just protection of nerve cells, but can also impart general cytoprotection, i.e., protect many other cell types.

Firmenich began construction of its new world-class manufacturing facility dedicated to flavors in Zhangjiagang, China. The new plant will enable Firmenich to provide superior service to its customers across China with increased speed-to-market and operational excellence. 

A new trio of anti-aging products from Reviva Labs are designed to work together to provide anti-aging benefits. The Peptide Facial Skin Prep infuses the skin with topical trace minerals; the Advanced Peptide Plus blends alpha lipoic acid, vitamin C ester, DMAE, cllagen, elastin, 10% argireline, soy and vitamin C to help repair and prevent damaged skin; and Dual Source Vitamin C Serum contains two vitamin C extracts to help promote collagen synthesis, brighten skin’s appearance and correct existing environmental skin damage. 

Mazza Innovation announced that the first retail product made using its proprietary solvent-free PhytoClean method has been released commercially. Life Extension’s Mediterranean Whole Food Blend is now available and carries the PhytoClean seal on the label. The water-based extraction process concentrates bioactives by pressurizing water at moderate temperatures; this greatly increases the water’s ability to solubilize bioactive compounds. In effect, this extraction process generally provides better yields and purities than industrial solvents.
