BRANDON, Manitoba, Jun 11, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Shape Foods Inc., producer of all natural, culinary quality flax oil products, introduces Heart Shape Flax Oil and Flax Oil blends. Heart Shape Flax Oil and Flax Oil blends marry the purest flax, olive and sunflower oils, a process that makes traditional Mediterranean oils even healthier. The line of three products: Flax Oil, Flax & Sunflower Oil blend and Flax Olive Sunflower Oil blend are available in major retailers nationwide. Suggested retail price is $9.99 for a 250ml bottle.
"During the last decade, demand for flax seed tripled," said William Vincent, Shape Foods' president and VP research and development. "An aging population, increased health consciousness and a desire for more functional foods will undoubtedly continue to fuel greater consumption for products containing flax seed and its oil. Our hope is to educate general consumers not only about Heart Shape Flax Oils, but also about the proven health benefits of flax oil overall."
While the health benefits of flax oil have been touted for many years, flax oil's shelf life was short and taste considered unpleasant. However, Shape Foods' production process yields the industry's first culinary quality, 100 percent-pure flax oil. The result is a rich, superior tasting flax oil with a two year shelf life that does not require refrigeration until after it is opened.
Shape Foods Heart Shape Flax Oils are currently available at the following supermarket locations across the East Coast, Mid West and South:
-- ShopRite -- Foodtown
-- D'Agastino -- Gristedes
-- Hannaford -- A&P
-- Harris Teeter -- Earth Fare

Heart Shape oils will soon be available at supermarkets nationwide.

About Essential Fatty Acids
There are 20 different types of essential fatty acids (EFAs) that the human body requires for optimum health; humans manufacture all but two: Omega-3 alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) and Omega-6 linolenic acid, the sources of which come from nutrients in our foods. Heart Shape flax oils are an excellent source of ALA Omega-3, Omega-6 polyunsaturates and Omega-9 monounsaturates and are low in saturated fat.
Heart Shape's Health Benefits
Flax oil is one of nature's richest sources of plant-based alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) Omega-3 and has long been regarded for its health benefits. Flax oil is reported to reduce inflammation, which is the underlying cause to many illnesses, including cardiovascular disease. Among other attributes, flax oil has been reported to help enhance joint mobility, repair tissue, build muscle and improve skin, hair and nail health.
