Closing the entrepreneurial gender gap – Fodder podcast

Even in the progressive natural products industry the business gender gap exists particularly at management levels and when it comes to funding. In this episode of Fodder, the podcast powered by Esca Bona, we explore what’s happening—and what needs to happen—to recognize the issue and work toward parity.

Equal rights are an accepted part of society today. Equal standing, though, seems so far off still.

Even as the number of women-owned businesses has growth, employment has declined by 0.8%.

Still, women run just 10% of businesses and only 2% of venture capital dollars went to female-led companies last year.

The natural products industry is taking step toward closing the entrepreneurial gender gap: recognizing a problem exists.

Now, retailers, associations, small brands and large CPG organizations are making moves the fill the entrepreneurial gender gap.

We highlight some of the projects, problems and possibilities in this episode of the Fodder podcast.

Experts include:

  • Nona Lim of the food brand that carries her name, Nona Lim.
  • Sheryl O'Loughlin, JEDI Project, Women on Boards Initiative and former CEO at REBBL and Clif Bar & Company, and co-founder of Plum.
  • Heather Isely, executive vice president and corporate secretary of Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage.
  • Jessica Spaulding, senior director of brand marketing at PepsiCo.
