Sun & Swell Foods snags NEXTY Award for compostable packaging

Sun & Swell Foods' clean, whole food-based products are housed in a pouch that is fully compostable and decomposes after just 180 days, while plastic bags can take anywhere from 10 to 1,000 years to decompose.

Sun & Swell Foods thoroughly impressed judges throughout both rounds of Natural Products Expo West 2020 NEXTY judging, coming away with the well-earned NEXTY Award for Best Environmentally Responsible Packaging

CEO and founder Kate Flynn credits an Israel-based company called TIPA for the compostable, flexible film the package is made of. According to her, the company was small enough to be able to get the new packaging on shelf in just nine months.

The biggest challenge of implementing this novel packaging, she reveals, isn't the marginal price difference—it's keeping the product inside pristine after shipping and storing.

Notably, an impressive 50% of California-based Sun & Swell's ingredients are sourced within the state, and all of its products are gluten free, dairy free, soy free and vegan.
