Chr. Hansen Brings Four New Premium Natural Colors to FI Europe

A brand new white shade as well as improved versions of the yellow, green and black shades make up the 2nd generation of Chr. Hansen’s CapColors® range of natural colors which is launched at the Food Ingredients Europe trade show in Frankfurt, Germany, Nov. 17-19, 2009.

Emphasizing its position as a global frontrunner within natural color innovations, Chr. Hansen now introduces another three new CapColors® after very recently having released the truly unique natural white color CapColors® White 100 WSS-P. The three new shades are:

• CapColors® Yellow 100 WSS
• CapColors® Green 100 WSS
• CapColors® Black 100 WSS

These new patent pending CapColors® are based on turmeric, chlorophyllin (derived from spinach and other natural chlorophyllin sources) and carbo vegetabilis (vegetable charcoal), respectively. CapColors® are applicable in various foods but the applications in focus for the three new colors are confectionery products.

A quality leap
“Natural color suppliers have been offering yellow, green and black natural colors for a number of years but the new CapColors® outshine its predecessors in several ways,” explains Chr. Hansen Color Division’s Ji Hoong Too, Business Development Manager, Confectionery & Ice Cream.

“Due to technological improvements these new colors offers confectionery manufacturers superior color brightness and stability in their products — all naturally. CapColors® use encapsulation technology for increased resistance to light, acid and oxidation, making them perfect for applications where bright color is essential. Their increased intensity and brightness ensures that the standardized natural colors withstand the demanding food production processes.” continues Too.

Multiple advantages
In more detail, confectionery producers using the 2nd generation CapColors® shades will reap a number of benefits:

• Increased strength leading to lower dosages and decreased cost-in-use
• Higher color intensity and less sedimentation
• No migration/bleeding issues
• Better stability towards light, oxidation and pH
• Better dispersibility

Furthermore, the new CapColors® are certified for Kosher and Halal (excl. CapColors® Black 100 WSS) and Vegetarian consumers.

CapColors® Black 100 WSS and CapColors® Green 100 WSS are not legally permitted in the US.

At the upcoming Food Ingredients Europe 2009 event on November 17-19 in Frankfurt, Germany, Chr. Hansen will be showcasing all four new CapColors® as well as a number of other new innovations — stand 8H5 in hall 8. www.chr-hansen.com/fie
