Food: Sir Kensington’s Fabanaise
Who knew the answer to a really good eggless mayonnaise was in the humble chickpea? It turns out the viscous liquid created when chickpeas are cooked (called aquafaba) is the perfect plant-based ingredient to achieve creamy texture and rich, eggy taste in Sir Kensington’s new vegan mayonnaise. We also love that the company partnered with hummus maker Ithaca Hummus to source their aquafaba, which had previously been a waste product.
Natural Living Product: Modern Sprout Push Garden
Modern Sprout, makers of self-watering herb kits, hydro planters and seed starters, have turned their attention to tiny green thumbs with their newest product, Pollinator Push Garden. These seed starter kits look just like push-up pops and are designed for young, budding gardeners to easily plant pollinator-friendly seeds into the ground. The seed blends have been carefully selected to attract hummingbirds, bees or butterflies.
Ingredient: Nature’s Crops International Ahiflower
ALA-rich ahiflower is 300 to 400 percent more effective than flaxseed oil in converting to long-chain omega-3 EPA in circulating cells, according to a recently concluded human clinical trial. Developed through natural selection and patient agronomy over the past 12 years, ahiflower is now the richest effective combined omega-3+6 fatty acid source from a single non-GM plant. Due to its clean taste and aroma, we expect to see ahiflower showing up in more supplements, foods and beverages in the near future.
